Seven days gives you enough time to experience Turkey’s three most distinctive regions: the density and history of Istanbul, the surreal landscape of Cappadocia, and the turquoise coastline of the Aegean. This itinerary is designed for first-time visitors who want a manageable pace without wasting days on unnecessary transit.

| 3–4 | Cappadocia (Göreme) | Flight from Istanbul (1h 20m) |

Days 1–2: Istanbul
Two full days is tight for Istanbul, so prioritise. Focus on Sultanahmet (historic centre) on Day 1 and the Bosphorus + modern Istanbul on Day 2.
Day 1 — Sultanahmet and the Old City
- Morning: Hagia Sophia (free entry, opens 09:00 — arrive by 08:30 to beat queues). Cross the square to the Blue Mosque (free, closed during prayer times).
- Midday: Grand Bazaar (closes 19:00). Don’t buy anything on your first pass — prices drop on return visits. Lunch at a lokanta near the bazaar: ₺100–180 for a full plate.
- Afternoon: Basilica Cistern (₺450 entry) or Topkapı Palace (₺750 entry, allow 2–3 hours). Pick one — doing both in one afternoon is rushed.
- Evening: Walk down to Eminönü waterfront. Balık ekmek (fish sandwich) from the boats: ₺80–120.
Day 2 — Bosphorus and beyond
- Morning: Bosphorus ferry cruise. The full public ferry (Şehir Hatları) runs Eminönü to Anadolu Kavağı — 6 hours return, ₺100. Shorter private tours run 90 minutes for ₺200–400.
- Afternoon: İstiklal Caddesi and Galata Tower (₺650 entry, or just admire from outside). Walk the side streets of Beyoğlu for meyhanes and record shops.
- Evening: Karaköy waterfront for dinner. Expect ₺250–500/person at mid-range restaurants.
Book in advance: Bosphorus cruise tours sell out in peak season. A guided Bosphorus cruise with stops is worth considering if your time is limited.
Days 3–4: Cappadocia
Fly from Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen or Istanbul Airport to Kayseri (1h 15m) or Nevşehir (1h 20m). Shuttle buses from both airports to Göreme cost ₺200–350. Book with your hotel or via Helios Transfer. For a hassle-free transfer with a fixed price, Kiwitaxi covers Kayseri and Nevşehir airports with pre-booked private transfers.
Day 3 — Valleys and underground
- Morning: Hot air balloon flight. This is Cappadocia’s signature experience — ₺5,000–8,000 per person depending on season and operator. Flights launch at sunrise (around 05:30 in summer). Book at least 2 weeks ahead; cancellations due to weather are common (you get refunded or rescheduled).
- Afternoon: Red Valley / Rose Valley hike (2–3 hours, free, well-marked trail from Göreme). Stop at one of the valley-floor juice stalls.
- Evening: Sunset from Lover’s Hill above Göreme (free, 10-minute walk from town centre).
Day 4 — South Cappadocia
- Morning: Kaymaklı or Derinkuyu Underground City (₺400 entry). Both are extraordinary — Derinkuyu goes 8 levels deep. Arrive early; tour groups flood in by 10:30.
- Afternoon: Ihlara Valley if you have a car (the valley is 45 km from Göreme and awkward without one — compare rental rates at GetRentacar), or Pigeon Valley (walkable from Göreme to Uçhisar, 4 km one-way). Uçhisar Castle viewpoint: ₺120.
- Evening: Pottery workshop in Avanos (₺200–400) or Turkish night show in Göreme (₺600–1,000 including dinner).
Book in advance: Balloon flights (essential), and a Green Tour or Red Tour if you prefer guided groups (₺800–1,200/person including lunch and transport).
Days 5–6: Aegean Coast (Fethiye or Bodrum)
Fly from Kayseri to Dalaman (for Fethiye, 1h 10m) or Milas-Bodrum Airport (for Bodrum, 1h 15m). Shuttle from Dalaman to Fethiye: ₺250–400. Shuttle from Bodrum airport to town: ₺150–250.
Option A: Fethiye
Best for: nature, boat trips, paragliding, less commercial atmosphere.
- Day 5: Ölüdeniz Beach (₺50 entry to Blue Lagoon section) and tandem paragliding from Babadağ (₺3,000–4,500 — one of the world’s best launch sites, 1,969m above sea level). Book morning slots for calmer air.
- Day 6: 12 Islands Boat Tour — a full-day gulet cruise stopping at swimming coves and small islands (₺400–800/person including lunch). Or: kayaking over the sunken city at Kekova (organised tours from ₺500).
Option B: Bodrum
Best for: nightlife, history (Bodrum Castle), upmarket restaurants, Greek island day trips.
- Day 5: Bodrum Castle / Museum of Underwater Archaeology (₺200 entry). Walk the harbour. Afternoon at one of the peninsula beaches (Bitez or Gümüşlük).
- Day 6: Gulet day trip around Bodrum peninsula (₺500–900/person) or ferry to Kos, Greece (₺1,000–1,500 return, 1 hour each way — bring your passport).
Day 7: Departure
Fly from Dalaman or Bodrum back to Istanbul for international connections, or fly direct to Europe (Bodrum and Dalaman both have seasonal direct flights to London, Amsterdam, Berlin, and others).

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is 7 days enough for Turkey?
- Seven days is enough to cover Istanbul, Cappadocia, and one coastal destination properly. You won't see everything, but you'll experience the three most distinctive regions without rushing.
- What's the best order for a 7-day Turkey trip?
- Start in Istanbul (international flights land there), fly to Cappadocia mid-trip, then fly to the Aegean coast. This avoids backtracking and keeps internal flights short (1–1.5 hours each).
- How much does a 7-day Turkey trip cost?
- Budget travellers can manage on ₺800–1,200/day ($25–37 USD). Mid-range travellers spending on boutique hotels and organised tours should expect ₺2,000–3,500/day ($60–110 USD).
- Do I need to book internal flights in advance?
- Yes. Turkish Airlines, Pegasus, and AnadoluJet offer cheap fares (₺500–1,500 one-way) but prices double within 2 weeks of departure. Book 3–4 weeks ahead for best rates.
