Fethiye has become a legitimate option for remote workers — particularly in shoulder season — due to its combination of affordable costs (significantly cheaper than Bodrum), excellent natural setting, and the lifestyle access that comes from having the Lycian Way, multiple beaches, and the Tuesday market within reach. The infrastructure for remote work is limited compared to Antalya or Istanbul, but the lifestyle proposition is strong.

Cost of living in Fethiye (2026)

Fethiye is meaningfully cheaper than Bodrum and comparable to Antalya’s residential districts for monthly costs. The Kayaköy countryside option provides particularly good value for what it delivers.

At current rates (~₺32/USD): Budget ≈ $354–580; Mid-range ≈ $580–985; Comfortable ≈ $980–1,670

Value for lifestyle: The mid-range bracket in Fethiye buys genuine quality — a good apartment in Kayaköy or Fethiye town, regular fish market dinners, weekly boat trips, and the Lycian Way on your doorstep.

Accommodation by area

Fethiye town: Monthly apartments ₺7,000–14,000 for a 1-bedroom. Best access to transport and the Tuesday market. Practical but not atmospheric.

Kayaköy: Monthly house or apartment rental ₺8,000–16,000. The most atmospheric and distinctive option — countryside setting, ghost village access, walking trails. Requires a scooter or occasional taxi for beach and town access.

Çalış Beach: Monthly apartments ₺6,000–11,000 — the most affordable option with beach access. Less interesting than Kayaköy but practical for beach-focused stays.

Ölüdeniz: Monthly rentals are significantly more expensive (₺10,000–20,000) and the village is primarily designed for short-term tourist stays rather than monthly living.

Sahibinden.com (Turkish-language) lists properties 20–40% cheaper than international platforms.

Visas

The standard Turkish 90-day tourist entry applies. Most nationalities (EU, UK, US, Australian) can enter without a pre-arranged visa or with an e-Visa (apply at evisa.gov.tr, $50–80 depending on nationality).

After 90 days: Cross to Rhodes or Kos from Marmaris or Bodrum (ferry connections are close), then re-enter — resets the clock for one more 90-day period within the 180-day window. Common practice among long-term Fethiye residents. The 1-year Turkish residence permit (ikamet) is the formal path for stays beyond 6 months.

Internet and connectivity

Fixed internet: Türk Telekom and Turkcell Superonline provide fibre to Fethiye town and most residential areas. Monthly cost ₺200–450 for 100–500 Mbps. Standard setup requires a Turkish address.

Mobile SIM: Turkcell 4G LTE is reliable in Fethiye town, Ölüdeniz, and Kayaköy. Tourist SIM (30 days, 20–40GB): ₺200–350. Coverage drops in remote canyons and the more isolated Lycian Way sections — not relevant for town-based working.

Kayaköy note: Rural fibre coverage in Kayaköy is improving but not universal. Verify the specific address’s internet connection before committing to a Kayaköy stay; some properties rely on 4G home internet devices rather than fibre.

Coworking

Fethiye has very limited formal coworking. One or two spaces in Fethiye town operate seasonally; day passes ₺150–300, monthly ₺1,500–2,000. Not reliable for planning a full-month work setup around.

Practical approach: For productive long-term remote work in Fethiye, prioritise accommodation with a reliable dedicated internet connection and create a home working environment rather than relying on coworking or cafe WiFi.

Banking

ATMs throughout Fethiye town; less common in Ölüdeniz and rare in Kayaköy. Carry cash for the Tuesday market (cash-only), dolmuş fares, and local restaurants. International cards work at all Fethiye town ATMs.

Healthcare

Private clinics in Fethiye town for routine care (₺200–500/consultation). The nearest significant hospital is at Dalaman or Muğla. Travel insurance with medical coverage is strongly recommended.

Best months for Fethiye remote work

PeriodAssessment
May–JuneExcellent — warm, beach swimmable, uncrowded, shoulder prices
July–AugustViable but expensive; beach areas overcrowded; heat reduces outdoor productivity
September–OctoberBest months overall — 26°C sea temperature, empty trails, 30–40% price drop
November–MarchQuiet; some businesses close; cooler (12–18°C); hiking season; lower prices

October: The optimal Fethiye nomad month — the Lycian Way is at its best in autumn light, the Tuesday market has its richest produce (pomegranates, dried figs, last tomatoes), the sea is still swimmable, and the town operates at a comfortable local pace.

The lifestyle proposition

Fethiye’s appeal for remote workers is specific: it’s cheap enough to live on mid-range income, it has the Lycian Way and multiple beaches accessible without a car (dolmuş network), and it has the Tuesday market for genuinely good and affordable eating. In October particularly, it offers a quality of life that’s difficult to match at comparable cost anywhere in Europe.

For comparison, see Antalya digital nomad guide (better infrastructure, less scenic) and Kaş digital nomad guide (smaller but more charming, higher prices).
